God created human beings to know Him, love Him, and live in fellowship with Him. From the beginning, people were made to enjoy a relationship with their Creator. But sin separated humanity from God. People could not repair that broken relationship by their own goodness, strength, knowledge, or religious effort. We needed someone who could bring us back to God. That person is Jesus Christ.
The Bible calls Jesus the Mediator between God and people. A mediator stands between two parties and brings them together. Jesus does far more than carry God’s message to us. He came from God, lived among us, gave His life for us, rose from the dead, and opened the way for us to be reconciled to our Creator.
Jesus Came to Live Among Us
Jesus did not remain distant from humanity. He entered our world and became a man. John 1 teaches that Jesus is the Word who was with God and was God, and that the Word became flesh and lived among us. This is one of the most beautiful truths of the Christian faith: God came near to us through Jesus Christ.
Jesus walked the same earth we walk. He experienced hunger, tiredness, sadness, rejection, friendship, joy, suffering, and temptation. Yet He lived without sin.
Because Jesus became truly human, He understands the struggles of human life. But because He remained completely holy, He could do something no other person could do: He could stand between sinful humanity and a holy God.
Jesus came to reveal what God is like. Through His words and actions, people saw God’s compassion, mercy, holiness, truth, and love. He welcomed children, healed the sick, touched those others avoided, forgave sinners, fed the hungry, comforted the brokenhearted, and taught people how to live in God’s truth. When we look at Jesus, we see God’s heart toward His creation.
Jesus Is the Way Back to God
1 Timothy 2:5 makes an important truth very clear: There is one God, and one Mediator between God and people—Jesus Christ.
Jesus Himself taught this when He said: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is through me.” — John 14:6. Jesus is not simply one teacher among many pointing toward God. He is the One who brings us to God.
Our sin created a problem we could not solve on our own. Good deeds cannot erase sin. Human effort cannot make us perfectly righteous. We needed God’s forgiveness, cleansing, and reconciliation.
Jesus came to provide all three; He became the bridge between humanity and God—not because people climbed their way up to heaven, but because God lovingly came down to rescue people through His Son.
Jesus Gave His Life for Us
The cross was the greatest demonstration of Jesus’ love. Jesus willingly gave His life for sinners. He carried the punishment of sin so that those who believe in Him could receive forgiveness.
The Bible says: “In Christ we are set free by the blood of his death, and so we have forgiveness of sins.” Ephesians 1:7
At the cross, Jesus dealt with the very thing that separated humanity from God. He did not die because He had sinned. He died for our sins. He took our place.
The innocent One suffered for the guilty (Sinners) and brought them back to God. Because of Jesus, we do not have to earn forgiveness. It is a gift of God’s grace.
When we turn to Christ in faith and repentance, we do not have to live forever under the weight of our past, because Jesus has already paid the price.
Jesus Rose From the Dead
The story of Jesus did not end at the cross. Jesus died, was buried, and rose from the dead. His resurrection is essential to the gospel. Jesus is not a dead teacher whose followers try to remember His ideas. He is the living Saviour. The resurrection showed that death could not defeat Him. Our sin had been dealt with, death conquered, and the way to everlasting life opened; because Jesus lives, our faith is placed in a living Lord.
