The Books of the Law
The first five books are called the Books of the Law: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy.
These books tell us how God created the world, chose His people, rescued the Israelites from Egypt, and gave them laws to help them live in a way that pleased Him.
One of the most exciting stories is in Exodus, when God used Moses to lead the Israelites out of Egypt. God showed His power and cared for His people as they travelled through the wilderness.

The Books of History
The next group of books tells the history of God’s people.
Here we meet brave and interesting people like Joshua, Ruth, Samuel, David, Solomon, Esther, Ezra, and Nehemiah.
These stories include battles, kings, journeys, courage, friendship, and moments when people had to decide whether they would trust and obey God.
David, for example, was a young shepherd who trusted God when he faced the giant Goliath. Esther showed courage when she spoke up to protect her people.

The Prophets
The Old Testament also contains books written by or about prophets.
God chose prophets to deliver His messages. They warned people when they were doing wrong, encouraged them to return to God, and reminded them of His promises.
Some well-known prophets include Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, Daniel, Jonah, and Micah.
Jonah learned that God cares about people everywhere, while Daniel showed great courage by continuing to trust God even when it was dangerous.

What Can We Learn From the Old Testament?
The Old Testament teaches us many important lessons. We learn that God is Creator, keeps His promises, cares for His people, and that trusting Him matters.
We also learn from the choices people made. Some people obeyed God and showed great faith, while others made mistakes and learned difficult lessons.
