The First Man and Woman Part 2

May 20, 2026

We learned from part 1 that Adam was created in God’s image and Eve from Adam’s rib. They both lived in the garden, happy and peaceful, because they obeyed God’s instructions, until an unwanted visitor appeared. The first man and woman, part 2, would look into what really went wrong in the Garden of Eden that led to people’s separation from God and important Spiritual lessons for kids.

What really happened in the garden?

Everything was okay in the garden until a very tricky snake came into the garden to deceive them. The snake didn’t want Adam and Eve to obey God. He whispered to Eve, “If you eat that fruit, you’ll become just as smart as God! You won’t really die.” (Genesis 3:4). Eve looked at the fruit. It looked delicious. She forgot about God’s instruction and took a bite. Then, she gave some to Adam, and he ate it too.

The choice

Immediately after eating the fruit, they became aware of how they looked. Adam and Eve chose to disobey God’s instruction by eating the fruit God had already told them not to eat. This act of disobedience led to the first sin and the separation of man from God. Genesis 3:8 says, “Then they heard the Lord God walking in the garden. This was during the cool part of the day. And the man and his wife hid from the Lord God among the trees in the garden.”

The blaming

After Adam and Eve ate the fruit God told them not to eat, God asked Adam if he had eaten from the forbidden tree. Instead of taking responsibility, Adam accused Eve. In Genesis 3:12, Adam said, “The woman you put here with me gave me some fruit from the tree. So I ate it”. Adam blamed Eve for giving him the fruit and even seemed to blame God for giving Eve to him.

The Blaming

The Curse

God put a curse on the crafty snake, so that it would crawl on its belly instead of how it moved before and that it would move low on the ground and eat dust all its life. God also put enmity between the future children of Adam and Eve, which is to strike the snake anytime they see it (Genesis 3:14-15). God also placed a curse on Adam and his wife.

The Consequences of Disobedience

As a result of their disobedience to God’s instruction, God sent them out of the beautiful garden. The garden represents God’s presence, and so, when Adam and Eve were sent out of the garden (God’s presence; Genesis 3:23), they could no longer enjoy all the good things in it. They are to get everything by themselves, this time with severe pain. Adam is to till (farm) the ground before he can eat; that is, Adam must work hard before he can eat and provide for his family, while Eve would go through severe pain each time she gave birth.

The consequences

Important Spiritual Lessons for Kids

  1. Obedience to God brings blessings.
Listening to God’s instructions helps us stay safe, happy, and close to Him.
  2. Choices have consequences.
Every decision we make matters. When we make the wrong choice, it can cause sadness or problems, but we can learn and do better next time.
  3. Temptation can be tricky.
Evil often appears attractive, like the shiny fruit. Kids must learn to be careful and think before doing anything.
  4. God loves and forgives us.
Even when Adam and Eve disobeyed, God didn’t stop loving them. This shows us that God’s love is unconditional.
  5. Honesty and responsibility are important.
When we make mistakes, it’s better to tell the truth and admit them than to hide or blame others.
  6. Trust in God’s wisdom.
God knows what’s best for us, even when something seems good to us. Trusting God leads to the right path.
