Light and Darkness Worsheet Tips
When teaching this worksheet on light and darkness to children, it is important to differentiate between Light and Darkness. These teaching tips will guide you through every part of our Light and Darkness worksheet.
Light
Physical light is the light we can see and touch, such as that from a lamp or a fire. While Spiritual light is the fruit of the spirit according to the book of Galatians 5:22, Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Gentleness, Faithfulness, and Self-control.
How do we know that Love, Peace, Joy, Patience, Kindness, Gentleness, Faithfulness and Self-control are from God?
The best way to know the true love that comes from God is when:
God’s Love
- What I want: It is easy to love a friend who shares their toys.
- What God wants: Loving them even when they don’t share.
God’s Joy
- What I want: says: “I’m glad because I’m having fun!”
- What God wants: “Even though my leg hurts or I’m having a hard day, I know God loves me, so I can still smile and say thank you to Him.”
God’s Peace
- What I want: Have the best friends who give me peace.
- What God want: Having God, who gives me peace always.
God’s Patience
- What I want: To be angry because I am hurt.
- What God wants: To be patient in anger.
God’s Kindness
- What I want: To be selfish and not help.
- What God want: To help others in need.
God’s Gentleness
- What I want: Not considering others’ feelings
- What God want: Being careful about other people’s feelings.
Faithfulness
- What I want: I don’t want to say yes all the time.
- What God want: Let your YES be YES, and your NO be NO.
Self-control
- What I want: I want to do anything I like
- What God want: Trust me to know what is good for you.
Back to the worksheet activity
Next, on the worksheet page, encourage kids to colour all the images of good things. There are four images that represent different feelings or attitudes. Pick the images that have the right attitude that a child of God can learn from.
Darkness
Parents can help kids understand what darkness means and how sin represents darkness. Also, they should help them understand why sin is bad and how it can affect kids.
What is sin?
Sin is an act of disobedience to God’s instruction.
Why do people need Jesus?
Jesus is the bridge that leads us back to God after we have been separated from Him.
How do we help others to see God’s light?
Through our love, people would know God, and also through sharing the word of God with others.
Refer to the worksheet.
Parents should help their kids fill in the correct answers and guide them through Question 2 of the worksheet.
Draw how you can shine in ‘others’ activities – Question 3: Here, children use their imagination and draw what they believe the answer is. Parents only need to guide them as they draw. Also, work to unscramble and write the word LIGHT correctly.
